Great Wild Goose Pagoda

Situated in the Da Cien Temple, about four kilometres from the urban center, Great Wild Goose Pagoda was built in AD652. It is 64 meters high with seven stories, and is one of the famous Buddhist pagodas in China.

The grand body of the pagoda with its solemn appearance, simple style and high structure, is indeed a good example of ancient peoples wisdom and talent. And it is the oldest and most famous ancient tower in Xian, considered the symbol of the old city.

Murals and steles preserved in the pagoda are treasures of Chinese art. Visitors can climb to the top via the stairs inside. Standing on the top floor, visitors can overlook the beautiful landscape of Xian as well as the marvelous scenery of South Hill.

It is built by the famous Chinese monk in Tang Dynasty, Xuan Zang. Now the Pagoda has high architectural value considering it is already 1,300 years old.

Surrounding Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the scenery is also quite charming, especially the square north of the Da Cien Temple. Covering about 110,000 square meters (131563 square yards) plus 20,000 square meters (23920.6 square yards) of water area, the entire square is composed of waterscape fountains, a cultural square, gardens and tourist paths. There you can taste real Chinese culture and traditions and fully enjoy the truly attractive views. With reliefs on the theme of the prosperous Tang Dynasty, 200-meter-long (656-foot-long) sculpture groups, 8 groups of sculpted figures, 40 relievos on the land, and 22 styles of musical fountains, it has become a must-see when you visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda.
