Linyin Temple
Lingyin Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist temples of northern China.
It stands at the foot of the Beigao Peak and faces the Feilai (Peak That Flew Here) Peak across a stream. The presence of the temple can be traced back to the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420AD). The Temple itself is one of the most famous Buddhist temples in China. You can see the second largest indoor Buddha statue of China, and the famous huge, fat "laughing Buddha".
In the Temples, there are various gold statues of Buddhas, posing in different positions and adopting a warrior stance. Behind the largest gold Buddha is a collection of delightful figures and deities, carved into a huge piece of wood. The Temple is filled with incredible statues and monuments to Buddha- laughing, standing and sitting!
In 1961 the temple was listed for protection as a key provincial historical and cultural site and is considered a leading center for research relative to Chinese Buddhist culture.
The 24.8-meter tall Buddha statue in its main hall is the second largest indoor one in China.
