Shanghai Museum
The Shanghai museum is reputed to be one of the four largest museums in China. It was established in 1952, and located in Peoples Square. Covering a construction space of 38,000 sq m, the museum is 29.5 meters high with five floors aboveground and two underground. Incorporates ancient Chinese philosophy that the sky is round and the earth is square.
The eleven Galleries of the museum contains more than 112,000 Chinese cultural relics from the Old Stone Age to modern times��including bronze ware, calligraphy, paintings, pottery, porcelain, jade ware, stone carvings, Jiaguwen (inscriptions on tortoise shells or animal bones), imperial seals, ancient coins, silk embroidery, dyed fabrics, ivory sculptures, ethnic crafts, as well as relics unearthed in Shanghai where bronze ware, pottery, porcelain and calligraphy are among the best in China. Most of them are among the best in China.
