Six Harmonies Pagoda
Highly erected by the Qiantang River and to the south of the West Lake, Six Harmonies Pagoda, is a perfect symbol of brick-and-wood structure built in the ancient China. The present Six Harmonies Pagoda was rebuilt in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127 - 1279) by Qian Hongchu, King of the Wuyue State. It is an outstanding example of brick-wood-structured architectures in China.
The purpose of building the pagoda was to suppress the tidewaters. The Pagoda stands 59.89 meters high, and is one of the tallest pagodas in southern China. It is definitely a masterpiece of ancient Chinese architecture.
Climbing to the top of the pagoda, tourists can appreciate the Qiantang River in a distance. Now beside the Six Harmonies Pagoda there has an ancient Chinese Pagodas Garden. In the garden, over one hundred ancient pagodas from all dynasties and regions are spectacularly displayed.
