Huangguoshu Waterfall
The Huangguoshu waterfall, one of the largest in China, is situated over the Baishui River, one of the headstreams of the Dabang River in the Zhenning Bouyei-Miao Autonomous County southwest of Guizhou.
As part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, the terrain is carved by the mountains into many canyons, rapids and waterfalls. The bed of the Baishui River is like a staircase descending step by step, forming nine falls at each step, of which the Huangguoshu waterfall is the largest.
The Huangguoshu Waterfall is 20 meters wide, sometimes as wide as 30-40 meters in the summer rainy season. Its pothole, pounded into existence by the falling waters in long years is called the Rhinoceros Pool. As the roaring river pours down from a height of 57 meters, it sends up myriads of sprays 100 meters high, which glitter like rainbows in the sunlight. The rapids here provide wide prospects for developing the rich power potential.
Additionally, the Baishuihe River flows to form the nine-step cluster of 18 waterfalls among which Huangguoshu Waterfall is the grandest. Xiniu Tan, the pond into which the waterfall pours, is accessible. Standing by the pond, tourists can be closer to the natural spectacle. The Water-Curtain Cave behind the waterfall is a fabulous spot from which the waterfall can be watched, heard and touched. The view from this amazing spot is particularly stirring at sunset. In addition to the Huangguoshu, there are over ten waterfalls and water-eroded caves along the Baishuihe River, which have many beautiful stories behind them waiting for your visit and approval.
At the lower reaches of the Huangguoshu Waterfalls, about 6 kilometers away, is the newly-opened Tianxing Bridge (Bridge of Stars) scenic spot,
which is composed of three interconnected scenic attractions, namely, the potted landscape, the cave and the stone forest in water. This scenic spot is distinguished with its sights of various types, its natural stone formations of fabulous shapes, high cacti extending far and wide forming a dense forest. The Tianxing Cave (Cave of Stars), The Tiansheng Bridge, a work of nature, a stone arch flying over a deep gorge and the Silver-Chain Waterfall are all worth visiting. The Huangguoshu Guest House is very convenient and comfortable and is just beside the Grand Fall with a group of buildings in beautiful surroundings. Around it Buyi women sell their pieces of needlework: embroidered bags, cross-stitched soles, pretty headdresses and small hand-made tokens.
